Dental Implants: Faith’s Story

At Norfolk Dental Specialists, we’ve spent ten years transforming lives from our Victoria Street premises, and in that time, we’ve placed over 3,047 dental implants. Every patient is different, but every one tells us what a difference their treatment has had. We hear so many incredible stories, and we’re always humbled at how our work really does make a difference. One of our favourite stories comes from Faith, who you may have seen on our homepage.

Faith was referred to Norfolk Dental Specialists from her own dentist. She told us that she had always had problems with her teeth, and was told at the age of 18 she would probably lose them by 25. However, despite periodontal problems Faith was able to maintain her teeth into her early forties. When she came to us, her upper teeth had become mobile and splayed, and she was self-conscious of her smile.

Faith knew that dental implants would be an expensive option, but for her, it was worth it. When she compared the benefits of a permanent, fixed solution to the day-to-day hassle of dentures, she realised that they were an investment in her future health and happiness.

“When I started to look at the cost of implants, I knew they were going to be expensive compared to a denture,” she says, “But I think that when I weighed up how much that was going to mean to me – not to have to take my teeth out every night and put them in a jar by the bed, not to have to worry about if I sneezed or coughed that they were going to go flying out over the table – I started to think, well, people spend more than this on holidays or cars, and this means so much more to me than a holiday or a car and it’s for the rest of my life, that I started to look more of it as an investment in me.”

After extensive assessment and planning, Faith underwent a course of periodontal treatment before having six implants placed to support her new upper teeth. From her initial referral to her ‘final fit’, the whole course of treatment took approximately 14 months. Looking through her photos, Faith can tell which were taken before, during and after her treatment. Before coming to us, she often kept her mouth closed in photos, not wanting to smile widely and show her teeth – but her smile started to become more confident and genuine as her treatment progressed. Faith attended her daughter’s wedding after her implants were fitted, and says that being able to enjoy the day without worrying about her teeth was “life-changing”.

The change in Faith has been apparent to everyone around her. As well as gaining a beautiful, healthy smile, her confidence has grown. Friends and colleagues often ask her how she achieved such incredible results – and how they can do the same. At NDS, we feel very lucky to have Faith acting as such a great ambassador for the practice!
