Implant Restorative Course in Norwich: Supporting 56 Practices in Restoring Implant Cases

At Norfolk Dental Specialists, our relationship with referring dentists extends beyond the treatment of individual patients. We also aim to support dental professionals in developing their knowledge and confidence in areas of specialist dentistry.

One area where we have seen this relationship develop is implant restorative dentistry. To date, 56 dental practices have restored implant cases with support from Norfolk Dental Specialists, following training, mentoring and ongoing collaboration with our team.

Our three-part Implant Prosthodontic Course provides dentists with a structured introduction to restoring appropriated implants cases within their own practices, combining theoretical learning with practical experience.

The NDS Implant Prosthodontic Course

Our Implant Prosthodontic Course has been developed for dentists who would like to become more involved in the restorative stage of implant treatment.

Delivered across three evenings, the course covers key areas including:

  • Implant concepts and treatment planning
  • Appropriate case selection
  • Cement- and screw-retained restorations
  • Implant maintenance
  • Practical restorative techniques

Alongside seminar-based learning, dentists have access to mentoring and hands-on workshops to help them put what they have learned into practice.

The course is intended to provide dentists with the knowledge and practical foundations to begin restoring appropriate single-tooth and small bridgework implant cases within their own practices.

Support Beyond the Course

Training is only part of the support available

Dentists who complete the course can continue to access the NDS team for guidance and mentoring as they begin applying their knowledge to suitable cases. Further hands-on educational opportunities are also available in areas such as implant overdenture treatment.

Where appropriate, we can provide in-practice support and opportunities for live clinical observation. This gives dentists the chance to see how implant cases are approached in a clinical setting and develop a greater understanding of treatment planning, decision-making and the practical considerations involved in implant restoration.

This ongoing relationship means dentists do not simply complete a course and then work in isolation. They can continue developing their experience with access to specialist support when required.

56 Practices Now Restoring Implant Cases with NDS Support

We are pleased that 56 dental practices have now restored implant cases with support from Norfolk Dental Specialists.

Each practice and clinician is different, so the route from training to restoring implant cases will not always be the same. Some dentists may initially want to observe treatment or discuss potential cases, while others may be ready to begin restoring suitable straightforward cases following their training.

Our aim is to provide the level of support that is appropriate for the individual dentist and the patients they treat.

Working Alongside Referring Dentists

Implant dentistry can involve more than one clinician, with the surgical and restorative stages of treatment undertaken collaboratively.

For dentists who want to remain involved in their patient’s care, developing implant restorative skills can allow them to undertake appropriate restorative stages within their own practice while working alongside the specialist team at NDS.

Clear communication between clinicians is an important part of this approach, helping everyone involved understand the treatment plan and intended restorative outcome.

It also allows the referring dentist to remain closely involved in their patient’s treatment while having access to specialist expertise and support when required.

Supporting Education Across the Dental Community

Our commitment to professional education extends beyond our Implant Prosthodontics Course.

The NDS team provides postgraduate educational opportunities covering areas of restorative dentistry and periodontics, helping local dental professionals develop their knowledge in areas relevant to everyday clinical practice.

This has included practical teaching from Specialist in Prosthodontics John Krezel on fixed prosthodontics, exploring common restorative challenges, treatment planning and considerations ranging from individual crowns to full-arch restorations.

By sharing specialist knowledge and practical experience, we hope to support high standards of patient care across the wider dental community.
